St Mary’s Church, Kingskerswell

SBA were appointed in 2017 to provide structural engineering advice and design for a project at St Mary’s Church, Kingskerswell.

We worked alongside Le Page Architects in preparing the structural design and the work was completed to a very high standard by Bovey Construction in 2019.

The work included refurbishment of the bell frame, new mezzanine floor gallery for bell ringing, new kitchen in the tower and a new extension for a WC and flower arranging room. We also designed new tower bell lifting beams, and an internal tower scaffold for their installation.

In excavating the extension foundations, several historic graves required relocating. One in particular ‘Adam’s Tomb’ required sensitive redesign of the concrete floor slab to preserve the historic tomb (now empty) below.
