Principal Designer Services and CDM

Everyone involved in construction work needs to know about the Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations as it is a legal requirement to comply with them. Large fines can be imposed for non-compliance.

Simon Bastone has attended courses, meetings and seminars on the CDM regulations. We can therefore provide services to clients both independently and in parallel with design and other services. We act as Principal Designer in accordance with the latest CDM regulations.

The CDM Regulations are applicable to all construction projects and projects over a certain size and duration on-site require the appointment of a Principal Designer to ensure compliance with the regulations. The appointment of the Principal Designer should be instigated at the commencement of the design process.

The CDM regulations were drawn up to encourage clients and designers to consider health and safety at design stage. It is a misconception that the regulations relate to general health and safety such as the wearing of protective clothing, hard hats etc. This is incorrect as these issues are covered by other legislation. The legislation is intended to address safety during construction, in use and for future maintenance.
