Ashley Cottage/Award winning residential extension

Ashley Cottage is an interesting extension to an historic house which is constructed over an embankment on an elevated platform. The platform consists of a grid of structural steelwork supported on three foundation points, linked with inclined circular hollow section posts as a feature and structural statement.

The superstructure consists of single skin timber frame construction, clad externally with cedar shingles. Timber frame construction was chosen to limit the weight of the structure for economy of structural steelwork. The building has feature vaulted ceilings internally.
